Boss customers, thieves and fires
Four boss customers gate achievements: the Ramen Critic, the True Ramen Critic, the Wealthy Customer and the Monk. Critics take invitation-style visits — invite them before opening. Thieves hit the register (fight them off by clicking) and fires need the extinguisher; first clears now pay cash.
Business as usual is not the whole game: Japanese Ramen Simulator periodically interrupts a perfectly good service with a critic at the counter, a thief at your till, or a fire in the corner. The store calls it "expect the unexpected" — here is every flavour of chaos and the play against each.

Rush hour. The 'unexpected' events exist to test whether a busy shop stays a working shop.
The four boss customers
These are the marquee challenges, and each one maps to an achievement with a visible global unlock rate — which doubles as a difficulty ranking:
| Boss customer | Achievement | Globally unlocked (10 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Ramen Critic | Even the Critic Is Impressed | 33.1% |
| Wealthy Customer | A Bowl Worth More Than Gold | 4.3% |
| Monk | Nature's Bounty | 0.7% |
| True Ramen Critic | A Bowl Beyond Criticism | 0.3% |
How the critic fights work: a demanding critic visits the shop and you serve them like any customer — only the judgment is merciless. The bowl is read on aroma, umami, and the specifics of the request; the Day-1 patch made the critic's topping instructions appear while you are holding an ingredient, so watch the prompt before you slap anything in the bowl. Since the same update, clearing any boss customer for the first time also pays a cash reward — the challenges are now part of your budget, not just your trophy shelf.
A working plan for each: serve them early in the day (kitchen fresh, queue short), keep the exact request on screen, and do not experiment. If the bowl lands wrong, you find out in a comment — the regulars still pay.
Thieves
During business hours, a stranger can bolt for your cash register and clean out the till. What players report from solo runs:
- The thief can hit while you are busy, while the shop is shut, or while you are using the computer — the open register is the trigger, not the crowd.
- You can fight them: clicking a thief that has taken money knocks it loose. The Day-1 patch specifically fixed the case where a thief who had already left the register could not be repelled.
- There is no toggle yet to disable the mechanic; solo owners have been asking for one loudly. The countermeasure that works today is habit: close the register every single time you leave it, and treat a commotion sound mid-pour as a register drill.
Fires
Fires can break out without warning during service. The shop's own kit is the answer: grab the fire extinguisher and put it out before it eats a station. The game also stocks shuriken and kunai (delivered with supply boxes as of the Day-1 build) — instruments of general trouble management. Keep an extinguisher near the cooking line and know its wall mount before you need it; the first fire you meet is not the moment to learn the layout.
The gambling hall
Somewhere in town there is a gambling hall where you can, in the store's own words, "try your luck and win a fortune". Mechanically it is a cash-injection slot for a run that needs a lift — a lottery ticket. Play it when losing the stake changes nothing; never fund an expansion with it.
What to do in the moment
- Assess in one second. Critic at the counter: kitchen mode. Thief at the till: sprint. Fire: extinguisher, then assess damage.
- Protect the pipeline. A fire near the broth is an emergency; a fire near decor is an inconvenience.
- Finish the queue. After handling the event, clear the waiting orders before they cascade into ratings damage.
- Log it. The day-end summary after a chaos day tells you what the interruption actually cost in expenses and ratings.
Reading the unlock rates
The boss-customer achievements are a useful map of the player base: a third of owners have beaten the first Critic, while fewer than one percent have survived the Monk or the True Ramen Critic. If you are pushing for the rarer challenges, the unlock ladder is your prerequisite — the later bosses expect a kitchen that can multitask, not a bigger menu.
